INSIGHT INTO SCREENING & BRIEF INTERVENTION
Presented by: Dr. Katie McQueen
Contemporary Medicine Associates
3 CEUs for LMSW, LPC, LMFT, LCDC
Alcohol and drug use has been called America's number one public health concern. Drugs and alcohol directly impact the lives of millions of Americans and affect the delivery of health care on many levels. They interfere with effective treatment of injury and illness by causing dangerous drug interactions, and they directly contribute to over 70 conditions that require hospitalization. Despite these compelling concerns, fewer than 10% of Americans who need treatment receive treatment. This workshop will present simple screening and intervention strategies that can motivate people to change their alcohol and drug use and when needed, to seek chemical dependency treatment. Strategies for working with the healthcare system to incorporate screening and referral will be presented.
Katie McQueen, M.D., is Assistant Medical Director of Contemporary Medicine Associates. She is a nationally recognized expert in the field of addiction medicine and brief interventions for alcohol and drug misuse. Dr. McQueen's approach includes prevention, early intervention, therapy, family participation, medications and twelve step recovery programs.
