We reach individuals who suffer problem drinking or prescription and other drug abuse, as well as other dysfunctional behaviors. And, we understand that lasting success requires active engagement in the recovery process, which we offer through our aftercare program.

Recently we have added an eating disorder aftercare group that offers continuous care, theraputic support, and a connection with eating disorder resources and support groups in Houston. 

Through The John P. McGovern Center for Aftercare, The Council provides counseling for adult clients who are seeking long-term therapeutic support and monitoring after inpatient or intensive outpatient treatment. Our therapeutic aftercare services are available for Healing Choices alumni, clients who return to the Houston area after primary treatment, as well as referrals made through company Employee Assistance Programs.

We believe it is difficult to achieve lasting success without staying actively engaged in the recovery process. Thus, the weekly therapeutic aftercare groups are structured to provide individuals the opportunity to continue their personal learning process in a supportive environment. 

The Council offers intensive outpatient treatment, aftercare and counseling services for adults, teens and their families through the Center for Recovering Families. At the Center, individuals and their families begin a comprehensive, lasting process of change as they commit to recovery from harmful behaviors or use of substances. In treating maladaptive behaviors, it is difficult to achieve lasting success without also addressing the underlying family dynamics at work in each individual’s life. We provide ongoing programs in family systems-based counseling, especially in relation to issues of dependency, co-dependency, compulsive behaviors and addiction.

Following intensive outpatient treatment with us or inpatient treatment at another facility, our clients join an aftercare group and begin participating in self help group activities.
